WHAT IS A TESTICLE FESTIVAL?

A tradition as old as cowboys themselves, testicle festivals started out as a “calf fry” where members of the ranching communities would gather together to brand and castrate their cattle.  Being ever resourceful and never one to waste product, these ingenious men would sit around the camp fires and cook the castrated testicles, “had a ball” (pun intended) and the rest is history. The Testicle Festival, Calf Fry, Rocky Mountain Oyster Festival, whatever you call it, our Testicle Festival is a family friendly celebration steeped in of our rich western heritage.

 

WHAT IS THE MAZATZAL GRILL MASTERS BBQ COMPETITION?

The Mazatzal Grill Masters BBQ Competition is a nationally recognized KCBS Master Series BBQ competition held annually the last week of September or the 1st week of October. The competition is a limited field event, open to just 42 competition BBQ teams.  Event is presented by Mazatzal Hotel & Casino, KCBS and Arlieque Event Management. Over $17,000 in prize money is up for grabs along with the title Mazatzal Grill Masters BBQ Champion.

HOW DO I ENTER THE MAZATZAL GRILL MASTERS BBQ COMPETITION?

Team applications and rules are available at KCBS.COM or ARLIE-QUE.COM

WHAT IS A KCBS MASTER SERIES EVENT?

This is the highest level of KCBS competition and is the most popular type of contest KCBS sanctions.  A Master Series Sanctioned Contest requires the teams to cook 4 meats (Chicken, Pork Ribs, Pork Butt, & Brisket).  The cooking source at a Master Series Sanctioned Contest shall be of wood, wood pellets or charcoal.  KCBS Rules and regulations apply.  Master Series Sanctioned Contests are eligible for the American Royal and the Jack Daniels World Championship.  In addition, all KCBS team members who participate in a Master Series Sanctioned Contest earn points towards the KCBS Team of the Year awards held each year at their annual banquet.

 

WHERE & WHEN IS THE MAZATZAL GRILL MASTERS BBQ COMPETITION & TESTICLE FESTIVAL?

The Mazatzal Grill Masters BBQ Competition & Testicle Festival is held at the West parking lot of Mazatzal Hotel & Casino, Payson, Arizona.  Just a 90 minute scenic drive North East of Phoenix, AZ.

Friday  Sept 27-  Team set up/cooking begins

Saturday Sept 28 - Event open to public 10am – 4pm.  BBQ Award ceremony 3:30pm.

Eating Contests – 1pm Hot Wing, 2pm Kids Pie, 3pm Rocky Mountain Oysters

 

DOES IT COST TO ATTEND THE EVENT? IS THERE AN AGE RESTRICTION?

Attendance is free and open to all ages; however some age restrictions apply to the eating contests.

I CAN PURCHASE “ROCKY MOUNTAIN OYSTER” SAMPLES, RIGHT?

Yes, we will be selling small samples of our world famous “Rocky Mountain Oysters”.  If you can’t get enough, enter our Testicle Eating contest!

I CAN PURCHASE BBQ FROM TEAMS, RIGHT?

This is a competition however not all competitors will have BBQ for sale. There will be barbecue vendors, as well as other food vendors that sell food to the public. All food and beverages can be purchased directly from on-site vendors.

I CAN PURCHASE BEER, RIGHT?

Yes, beer, wine and other alcohol beverages will be available for sale with valid ID.  You can enjoy your adult beverage throughout the event area. Please drink responsibly.

HOW DO I BECOME A SPONSOR and/or VENDOR?

WHERE CAN I PURCHASE TESTICLE FESTIVAL GEAR?

All event merchandise can be purchased in the Mazatzal Hotel & Casino Gift Shop located by the casino main entrance.

WHAT SHOULD I LEAVE AT HOME?

Do not bring: firearms, beverages, bicycles, cans, containers, coolers, food, glass bottles, laser pointers, lawn chairs, umbrellas, pets, roller blades, roller skates, water guns, weapons or thrown objects (baseballs, footballs, Frisbees, etc.).

DO I NEED CASH?

Most purchases can be made with cash. ATMs are available at the casino for your convenience.

WHERE CAN I PARK?

Mazatzal Hotel & Casino has ample parking for all event and casino guests.

WHERE CAN I GET EVENT INFORMATION AND SIGN UP FOR EATING CONTESTS?

For event information visit www.mazatzalcasino.com.  Day of the event, information and eating contest signups will be located by the main event entrance co-located with First Aid Station and Lost & Found. Participation in eating contests is free and sign-ups will only be done day of event. Participants must fill out entry form and waiver, some restrictions apply.

WHERE IS FIRST AID LOCATED?

A First Aid station will be located by the main event entrance. Should you need emergency medical treatment, please go to the First Aid Station or contact a member of security. Personnel are not allowed to dispense medications.

WHERE IS LOST AND FOUND?

Lost & found is co-located with the First Aid Station located at main event entrance during event hours. During off hours, please call 1800.777.7529.

ARE PETS ALLOWED?

Pets are not allowed. Service animals that are trained to assist an individual with a disability are allowed on the grounds of Mazatzal Hotel & Casino provided the animal does not pose a danger or threat to other service animals or patrons. Owners of service animals are responsible for the animal’s personal care. Service animals must be under the control of their owners at all times and must be on a leash at all times.
